Custom Targets
A custom target is a recipient you add manually to your campaign who is not already in our system. This is useful for reaching local officials, community leaders, or organizational contacts who aren’t part of the preloaded legislative database.
When to Use Custom Targets:
Local government officials (mayors, council members, school board representatives)
Organization directors or decision-makers relevant to your cause
Community leaders or coalition partners
Who You Should NOT Target:
Journalists or media members – Advocacy tools are not designed for press outreach and may violate journalistic ethics.
Private individuals unrelated to the legislative process – Avoid sending unsolicited advocacy messages to non-public officials.
Judges or courts – These are not appropriate recipients for advocacy campaigns.
Best Practice:
Always ensure your custom target is an appropriate decision-maker or influencer in your advocacy effort, and confirm you have their correct, publicly listed contact information.
